The 2020 STEM Discovery Campaign is a joint international initiative organized by Scientix that invites projects, organisations, libraries, schools, universities and youth clubs across Europe and around the world, to celebrate careers and studies in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The tagline for this year’s campaign is “Innovative Trends in Education”. The main goal of the STEM Discovery Campaign, is to showcase the magnitude of the efforts teachers and other people interested in STEM education make during the academic year while using learning resources and engaging their students in educational activities promoting STEM.

[Update 13/03/2020] In order to contribute to the collective efforts aiming at curbing the widespread of Covid-19, Scientix and all partners of the 2020 STEM Discovery Campaign encourage everyone to consider organising online STEM events such as: webinars, chats, discussion boards, quizzes etc.

As many countries close schools and some of them look more into online teaching, we would like to support all educators in finding out new, engaging ways of involving students in online activities. Many of our previous campaigns proved that the creativity of teachers is limitless, and we are sure that in this specific situation we can also work together to make the campaign a success this time.

We, the team behind the 2020 STEM Discovery Campaign and associated competitions, will do our best to support teachers and schools in this challenging situation. We will provide regular updates with useful tips on how to work online and lists of online tools you can use to bring your classroom into the virtual environment. For the very beginning, you can start with exploring the resources in our Scientix Resource Repository but this list will definitely continue to grow!

We are aware that the situation is different in every country and it’s changing rapidly, therefore we primarily advise you to follow the recommendations provided by your local authorities and we leave the decision if to organise a live event or an online activity up to you.

Despite the situation being unusual and challenging for educational institutions, we are convinced that now is the time to learn more about adapting schools to online environment, testing new tools and developing digital skills of both teachers and pupils.

We are looking forward to seeing your (online) STEM activities!

As we would still like to facilitate sharing good practices and outstanding examples of organising (online) STEM activities, we have decided to open our STEM Discovery Campaign blog to everyone who would like to share the stories of implementation of STEM (online) activities in the (virtual) classroom.

In response to the current situation, we are also very happy to welcome articles with tips and resources that teachers use to organise their online classes. Therefore, publishing an online post on our blog will be considered as an activity for the STEM Discovery Campaign. You can write a blog post about:

  • your (online) STEM activities
  • tips for organising remote classes
  • resources you use for online activities/lessons

If you don't have an account on the STEM Discovery Campaign blog, please contact the blog moderator Martyna Bajorinaite at martyna.bajorinaite@eun.org and she will create an account for you.

By writing a blog post on the  STEM Discovery Campaign blog, you are eligible to enter the Scientix competition.
