Scientix course at the Future Classroom Lab 2018

The Future Classroom Lab course "Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in primary school classrooms" held on 25-29 June 2018 in Brussels in collaboration with Scientix, led the participants to develop their own ideas about STEM activities that are interactive, fun and project-based, making learning both interesting and relevant to students' lives.

Trainers shared ideas with the participants on interdisciplinary and inquiry based learning and about how to enhance standard educational materials with creative technologies. Participants got involved in STEM experiments, they created STEM inspired lesson plans and activities and made connections with STEM careers. They also discovered the benefits of introducing making, tinkering and coding in the primary classrooms, by using their imagination and creativity to produce unique prototypes. 3d design thinking and digital storytelling sessions inspired participants to identify alternative strategies and solutions that might not be instantly apparent. Fun ways of making Maths meaningful, as well as ways to explore the universe and the cells in the classrooms, have been discussed. Participants also met the Future Classroom Lab, the innovative learning environment in Brussels, the Scientix, the community for science education in Europe, and the eTwinning, the online community for schools.

All in all, the FCL course "Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in primary school classrooms" managed to bring successfully 23 teachers from 7 European countries in Brussels for a full week dedicated to STEM.
